International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group Perinatal Transmission Research Agenda Committee Goals and Objectives |
The Perinatal Transmission/OB RAC's specific goals are the following:
Specific Aim I: Optimize antiretroviral and other interventional strategies for use in childbearing women to achieve and maintain transmission rates of 2% or less and at the same time promote maternal health.
Specific Aim II: Determine appropriate strategies for the prevention of transmission in populations at high risk for transmission in the United States and worldwide.
Specific Aim III: Ascertain optimal strategies for reduction of perinatal transmission and for maternal health among adolescent and young adults when compared to their older counterparts.
Specific Aim IV: Utilize results from current and future Phase I and Phase II trials and pharmacokinetic assessments to optimize antiretroviral dosing during pregnancy and for the newborn.
Specific Aim V: Evaluate the short- and long-term safety of antiretroviral drugs and other interventions/strategies on the health of women and their infants.
Specific Aim VI: Define virologic, immunologic, clinical, and genetic factors associated with pregnancy, perinatal transmission, the postpartum period, and antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy.
